Lupine desperately wanted her turn while we were photographing the younger dogs.  Well, I think she mostly just wanted some treats! It's hard to believe that she will turn 9 years old in a couple of months.  She is enjoying scent hurdle racing and is training in Utility and we hope to get in the ring in the not too distant future.

The dogs got to accompany Liz on a work trip to the Waterton area last week.  They enjoyed finally having some snow to roll and play in.   Tracking "something", elk perhaps? It was very windy! On January 4th, we suddenly found ourselves in a lot of smoke.  High winds were fanning a prairie fire to the west of us.  It started out near the Buffalo Jump, but quickly crossed Highway 2, heading west. Lupine is back!  She had to take the summer off from scent hurdle racing and other jarring activities because of a limp.  Her limp was diagnosed in the spring as arthritis in her left elbow.  We had a variety of treatments to treat her elbow and also her right shoulder which seemed stiff and sore, possibly as a result of compensating for the arthritis in her other side.   We also started her on a

November 18th - 20th was our local dog show put on by the Lethbridge and District Kennel Club. Liz took 3 dogs down to shows in Montana - two days in Great Falls and two days in Missoula.  Cava was the star over the weekend, picking up 3 majors and 14 championship points.  She is now just 1 point away from finishing her American championship.  There were some truly lovely flat-coats entered, so we were especially proud of how well Cava did.  She got many nice compliments from the judges

Last Sunday Sam and Sylvia earned their Working Certificate Excellent title!   The Canadian WCX test includes two doubles (on land and in water), a walk-up and honour and two blind retrieves, one on land and one in water.   Sam did a terrific job and is now HR Blazingstar Bobolink JH WCX TD.  Congratulations to Sam and his owners Sylvia and J!   We are very proud of this team. Flat-coats are very determined dogs.  When they put their mind to something, they keep trying until they succeed.   Puffin is no exception.  She likes to grab a piece of firewood as we head out on a walk.  Usually the firewood gets forgotten on the prairie somewhere, and our firewood pile is rapidly disappearing.   So we picked up and stacked the split firewood, out of Puffin's reach, leaving

On July 7th we welcomed 8 new puppies - 5 males and 3 females. Their mother is Teva, Blazingstar Tansley. We have borrowed Teva back from her owners for this litter. Huxley turned 10 years old today, or perhaps that should be 10 years young? While he sleeps a bit more than he used to, he is still a very bouncy, happy dog. It was a family affair at the AKC show in Calgary. I took Lupine and Huxley to compete in Rally Obedience. Lupine's daughters, Willow, Kona and Teva were all competing in conformation. I was also showing "Dunya", Bertschire Honeymoon Magic, a littersister to Tinbie's upcoming date, "Flame".On Friday Dunya was Best of Breed for 2 points. On Saturday, Dunya again won the points and Kona was Reserve

Teva's hip results came back as OFA Excellent. We now have two "excellents" and a "good" from Huxley and Lupine's litter.

We had more relatives and friends visiting us over the weekend. Tinbie's sister, Teva (Blazingstar Tansley) and half-brother Ripley (Prairielight Believe It or Not CD WC) joined us for some long winter walks and cross-country skiing along the river. Tinbie's brother, Sasha, came to stay for a week. The two littermates had so much fun playing together and Tinbie missed Sasha a lot when he left.

We are trying something new for our "Results and News" section of our website. Hopefully by doing this as a Blog, it will be a little easier to update regularly. We started the New Year with some fantastic frost and snow - wonderful for photo opportunities!
