Huxley Grandpuppies

Huxley, at 9.5 yrs old

If all goes well this year it looks as if Huxley will be a grandfather again, several times over:
At Kippenhill in Florida, Huxley's daughter, Marlene (Ch Kippenhill Too Cool to Care) has just been bred to Andy (Ch Destiny as Good as it Gets JH WC). Andy is a son of this year's Best of Breed winnter at Westminister (Cutter - Ch Quillquest Etched in Stone JH OA AXJ). Cutter is the same age as Huxley and it was great to see him win best of breed and looking so great at his age. Puppies will be black and liver.

At Songdog in Indiana, Annie (HR Blazingstar Beaufort CDX SH) will be bred to Doc (Ch Black Walnut Asclepius MH AX OAJ WCX HOF) using frozen semen. Doc was an exceptionally accomplished dog in fieldwork. Doc carries liver, so some of the puppies should be liver.

Bertschire kennel in Georgia plan to breed Flame (Ch Bertschire House on Fire) to our Tinbie this spring. Flame has many dogs in her background that we have admired for a long time, for both their looks and working ability.

In South Carolina, Flatout kennel will be breeding Reno (Ch Swallowsflight Jetblack Baccarat WC JH) to Tinbie. Reno carries liver, so there should be both liver and black puppies.

And here at Blazingstar we hope to have a litter out of Teva (Blazingstar Tansley) sometime this year.

We hope that Huxley's grandpuppies all inherit his working ability, looks and longevity!

(Huxley's opinion of all of this is that he'd much rather be a father again..... )

Vancouver Island Outpost

We got some photos from the two Blazingstar dogs holding the fort on Vancouver Island. They were field training on the weekend, near Nanaimo. Look at how green the grass is! We are very jealous.

Sam (HR Blazingstar Bobolink WCI JH TD) and Lindy (Blazingstar Linnaeus WCI JH RN CD CGN AGNS AGNJS )

.....and it looks as if they have been SWIMMING!

Thank-you to Rod for sending the photos

Let the Games Begin

The 2010 Winter Olympics begin today about 1000km west of us. We had some fun photographing our flag-bearing dogs. Note that we have snow, and Vancouver has rain!

Pretty Good for an Old Guy

Pretty Good for an Old Guy, originally uploaded by Blazingstar.

Here is a photo of Huxley showing off the ribbons he won in Rally Obedience on the weekend. He also won $15 and I expect he'd like to spend it on food if he had a choice.....

Alberta Kennel Club Show

It was a family affair at the AKC show in Calgary. I took Lupine and Huxley to compete in Rally Obedience. Lupine's daughters, Willow, Kona and Teva were all competing in conformation. I was also showing "Dunya", Bertschire Honeymoon Magic, a littersister to Tinbie's upcoming date, "Flame".

On Friday Dunya was Best of Breed for 2 points. On Saturday, Dunya again won the points and Kona was Reserve and Best Puppy in Breed. On Sunday Teva was Reserve.

In Rally on Saturday, Huxley finished his RN title, winning 4th in class. Lupine placed 2nd in the Rally Advanced class, with a perfect score of 100 (but a slightly slower time than the winner).

On Sunday I moved Huxley up to Advanced, but wasn't sure if he could do all of the exercises. Well he surprised me by doing a great job and winning the class! Lupine also qualified and finished her RA title.

The best part of the weekend was getting to know Willow, Kona and Teva better and spending time with them and their owners. All three of them showed really well.

Dunya (Bertschire Honeymoon Magic) visited us on her way to the Calgary show. Dunya lives in Idaho.

Excellent News

Teva's hip results came back as OFA Excellent. We now have two "excellents" and a "good" from Huxley and Lupine's litter.
